The Arts League of Michigan (ALM)
was formed in 1991 by a group of dedicated artists and arts enthusiasts with a
passion for artistic disciplines and cultural expressions. For several
years, The Arts League managed a performing and visual arts touring program
showcasing Michigan minority artists in communities throughout the State.
Through continuous growth,
development and strategic direction, The Arts League has evolved into an organization with a clear mission to be a "Center which develops,
presents, promotes and preserves the African and African American cultural arts
within our multicultural community."
Volunteers are at the core of the
Arts League. A committed board of directors, community advisory council
and volunteer corps shares the Arts League vision to deliver culturally relevant
programming that resonates with the community.
The Arts League is recognized as a
leadership organization offering a variety of cultural arts programs, services
and activities for both artists and audiences. Whether it is dance or
music, painting or the spoken work, our goal is to bring Art To The People.
The Arts League helps make art
happen by:
-
Engaging artists to
create new works
-
Providing opportunities
for young people to develop their skills
-

"Art
is at the core of any culture. Through its music, dance, visual arts
and words, a culture is documented, defined, recognized and
remembered. Those who create the art are innovators, educators,
social scientists and historians. Through art, the world can know a
people, understand a people, and see a people. Art can brighten a
house, ignite a classroom, and stimulate an audience."
