The Artists' Studio is a program that provides students with a creatively different environment in which to learn.  The curriculum focuses on Visual Arts, Photography, Dance, Creative Writing and Theatre in an artistic studio setting.  For twenty weeks, program participants receive individualized instruction in small groups of 3-5 students.  The student work with their peers as well as their professional artists mentors.  Students who wish to participate should show an interest and appreciation of art.  Previous instruction preferred, but not required.

Disciplines:

Visual Arts
The visual art studios are taught by professional master artists.  Each studio will focus on teamwork, developing an individual's artistic style, building technique, careers in arts and portfolio preparation.

Photography
Students have an opportunity to explore the world through a camera lens.  Sessions include camera operation, shutter speed, aperture, teamwork, composition, light and communication.

Creative Writing
Writing is an effective tool for measuring success and change.  The students become acquainted with their own hidden patterns of thinking and feeling.  They will be encouraged and nurtured to write, to reflect, to design their cover and to publish their work within the 20 weeks.

Theatre
If you know you were meant to be in the spotlight, this is the class for you.  The dynamic and active exploration of the vital aspects of acting and performance will be the training you need to begin a career in the theatre.  Wayne State University Theatre artists and actors will lead aspiring program participants giving young people an enriching interactive theatre experience.

Theatre in the Studio is a collaboration between the Arts League of Michigan and Wayne State University College of Fine Performing Arts and Communications.

Dance
This studio moves into another season with training in various forms of dance styles including modern, Jazz, ballroom, and hip hop.
