Jazz "Boot" Camp 2008

For 2 weeks beginning August 4 -15, 2008 Under the direction of renowned bassist, Rodney Whitaker and Professors of Jazz at Michigan State University and Shahida Nurullah, internationally known jazz vocalist; students in grades 8 - 12 will experience Jazz Style and Listening, Improvisation and Ensemble.
The studies consist of jazz ensembles and
workshops with emphasis on: Piano - Bass - Brass - Drums - Vocals - Woodwinds - Strings
Jazz Style and Listening: This course will introduce students to jazz recordings, demonstrating from improvisation, devices, arranging and composition styles used in jazz.
Improvisation: Teaches students the basic concepts of improvisation utilizing the blues and two-fine-one chord progressions and patterns.
Ensemble: Designed to give the students jazz ensemble experience teaching them phrasing, sight reading and performing skils.
This program provides a great atmosphere for building artistic skills and developing life skills.
