Art for the People
A visual and performing arts presenting program to engage audiences of all ages in the appreciation and enjoyment of African American cultural arts traditions. This presenting program provides venues for artists to showcase their work through public performances.  It has become part of one of the Arts League's core programs.  This annual juried art exhibition is both a local and regional touring program.  Components to Art For the People are:

  •  Performing Arts including the Jazz @ the Center and educational programs, and All That Jazz, an annual multi-artist jazz festival, presented at the Detroit Festival of the Arts, including Spoken work and dramatic presentations, music and dance concerts.

  •  Community Arts Exhibits showcase the works of minority artists.  Recent exhibitions include: Rock My Soul: The Black Legacy of Rock and Roll, commissioned and organized by ALM in collaboration with The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum, features the work of 10 Detroit-based African American artists and tells the story of the African American musical contributions to the music know as Rock and Roll.  This exhibition is currently on a multi-stop national tour; and Freedom, a 30-work exhibition of fine art featuring works that celebrate and commemorate the struggles of diverse groups of people in finding their freedom.
